How To Prepare For A Whitewater Rafting Trip

As exciting as guided rafting trips are, especially if you are planning one in the coming days or weeks, there are a few preparatory items to address. By far, the most important thing you can do at this point is find a reputable rafting company in the area. Although exhilarating, the dangers of whitewater rafting are worth noting, and these risks are only compounded when working under the guidance of inexperienced and untrained tour guides.

Whitewater Rafting Checklist

Before anything else, you will need to decide which river you want to raft. The Ocoee River is one of the most famous in the southern United States and caters to thousands of thrill-seekers every year. Trips are subdivided into the river’s Middle and Upper sections, each of which provides a unique rafting experience for newcomers and regular tourists alike.

The water temperature also varies considerably depending on what time of the season you reserve your spot. June, July and August are peak rafting times, but any reputable rafting business will provide complementary wet suits to their customers during off-peak months.

Make sure to notify the rafting company if any children, elderly adults or people with disabilities will be present on the tour to allow them to make the appropriate accommodations, namely ensuring the tour goes down the calmer part of the river. The size of your party will also need to be discussed as large groups typically require more than one raft. In the event that this is necessary, figuring out who will be riding with whom prior to departure will save plenty of hassle and headaches.

Lastly, do not be afraid to ask any and all questions you may have about the trip. There is no guarantee that you are going to stay on board the entire time, particularly if the rapids are rougher than they normally are. Ocoee whitewater rafting is extremely fun and rewarding.
